- Gilbert's
father Henry, is an electrical engineer. In "Three
Boys And A Burro" Wally says that Gilbert's father
is "a pretty big guy."
- Gilbert has
an older sister that Wally says is in High School and who
is in love with Efram Zimbalist Jr.
- In "More
Blessed To Give?" Gilbert explains that he was named
after his Uncle Gilbert. And in "Beaver's
Graduation" we learn that he has an uncle that's a
pharmacist. His full name is Gilbert Grover Bates. Gil
explained: 'that Grover is worth ten bucks' from his
Uncle Grover.
- He has an
aunt that lives in Pittsburgh.
- Gilbert has a
dog named Archie who was used by Beaver to scare away a
cat that wouldn't leave.
- Gilbert
claims to have known Beaver since second grade. He lived
just around the corner from the Cleavers.
- In 5th grade
it's Gilbert who conned Beaver into making a goofy face
in the school picture, claiming he would do it also and
then backing out. Beaver would have clobbered Gilbert if
Miss Bruce hadn't stopped him in "School
Picture."
- In "The
Book Report" Gilbert is the one who suggests that
Beaver do his book report by watching The Three
Musketeers on TV rather than reading the book.
- In
"Beaver's Poster" Gilbert's poster depicted a
Brittish soldier about to be struck in the head by a
cannon ball.
- Gilbert
weighed 90 lbs. in "Community Chest."
- In
"Beaver's Rat" Gilbert says he has a German war
helmet with a spike on top.
- Gilbert
issues six citations during Fire Prevention Week in
"Junior Fire Chief."
- In
"Beaver's Long Night" Ward makes the comment to
June: "Gilbert talks about his parents but have you
ever met them?" to which June says she's seen Mrs.
Bates in the grocery store.
- In
"Beaver Joins A Record Club" Gilbert says that
his older brother had his car repossessed.
- Beaver claims
that Gilbert walks in his sleep and that the last time he
spent the night with Beaver Gilbert walked right over to
Beaver's piggy bank.
- Gilbert takes
Angela Valentine to the Eighth Grade Graduation Dance in
"Don Juan Beaver" after his mother called her
mother and made the arrangements.
